Photo Shoot in Cumberland

Photos taken on the Big Log Nature Trail

Roots

I’m trying to put down roots

connect with mycelium underfoot

tap into mycorrhizal networks

and find a safe place to rest

I have travelled far

in mind, body and spirit

and dream of connection

of being tied lightly to a place

of being held gently

of calling this home

Tree Life

.

Standing like a tree, I hear the birds sing

I try to keep still and breathe softly

eyes closed I imagine my tree life

and wonder if the birds might come perch on me

.

I picture a life of growing with the seasons

of witnessing my surroundings-

the birds, flowers, people, dogs,

children, squirrels, mushrooms, machines

clouds, wind storms, heat domes, soft rain

.

And I see the life of a tree might be

more intriguing than I had thought

that I would have life blood and connection

coursing through me

offer shelter and nutrition

through my xylem, through mycelium

through mychorizal networks

.

And offer beauty to the world

by simply standing

being a tree

being me

.
