Asymmetrical Design- Secondary Colours

Jelly fish- one near, one far. In my mind, I imagined the long tentacles hanging off the bottom of the collage were stabilizing the image. However, I was advised that this isn’t the case. Also, I was advised there was too much white painted space on the image.

As I created the collage, I nearly made both jelly fish bigger but reduced the size as I liked this composition and wanted to give a sense of them floating through the ocean- perhaps viewed from the window of a submersible.

I looked at a lot of photos of jelly fish online in order to get a sense of the structure of their bodies and how they move through the water. I added some bubbles for interest and texture.

Despite the mixed reviews of my work, I am happy with the composition and the sense of floating underwater it evokes.

I had envisioned displaying my collage on a dark background so I took the advice of creating stability – and also reducing the proportion of white space – by painting an orange square and attaching it to create a final piece. I am even happier with the composition now. It really helps that I love orange and find it very cheerful!
